I have chosen to analyse and talk about the corporate identity of the channel E4.
Corporate Identity conveys information about either a corporation, a firm or a business. It is in other words the ‘corporate personality’. It helps to answer questions such as ‘who are we as a business/company?’ and what their purpose and plans are. It overall creates an image of the corporation in the minds of the diverse public, so in this case the target audience of the channel which is between the ages of 16-34.
There are different sub categories within corporate indentity. The first is corporate design which is the overall look of the logo (font, size, colours etc.) and how it may relate to the audience and the channels ethos. The second is corporate communication which is how it is portrayed and advertised to attract the audience and give themselves an identity as a channel. Lastly, the third category is corporate behaviour which includes the channels ethos and values, the type of programmes they air and what may be important to the channel.
E4 uses corporate design in theiry logo to make it recognisable to their target audience. The logo is white however mostly purple is a unisex colour which is linked to creativity and imagination. In addition to this, the text is in bubble writing. Furthermore this makes the ident all together eyecatching to the audience making it easier to remember for the target audience.
As a corporation, E4 also uses corporate communication in different ways. A good example would be the E4 estings, these are short clips to give the audience an idea of what a programme or show is about. This an interesting and creative way to do this as it passes off information and attracts viewers. It uses public relations in a way to build up an image for the channel and keep the target audience interested too.
In addition to his, E4 uses corporate behaviour aswell as they value and prioritise what they think is best for their viewers. They broadcast numerous different shows which are suitable for both men and women ranging from 16-34 in order for the channel to appeal to a variety of different audiences. Viewers give ratings and the amount of ratings increase due to the audience growing. This in theory means more money for the corporation.
In conclusion, E4 uses corporate identity to maintain an image they have created for their channel, to advertise this image aswell as their shows and also keep their audience entertained.
