Our idea will be part narrative and part performance based. It will include some people playing instruments and performing towards a camera. There will also be a story behind the song, it is how a student and his friends try to annoy a teacher as revenge for being told off. The location we will be filming in is likely to be within a school building in different classes and we might choose a different area to perform in. There will not be much light during the video as it will reflect the dark meaning behind the song.
Target audience demographic profile:
The music video we have created belongs to the genre of Indie therefore is most likely to be aimed at a working class, younger type of audience ranging from adolescence to young adults in their twenty or thirties. The audience can be either male or female. Due to the band who orignally sung the song originate LA, the target audience are likely to be American as normally Indie songs do are self-produced or do not come from a big record label.
Our video will appeal to this demographic as firstly, we have styled those starring in our Music video in a similar way to the band themselves. The video is more upbeat which may make it more appealing to a younger audience as it will come across as less boring. There are also elements of cutting to the beat and other visual effects to liven it up.
Target audience psychographic profile:
Our music video is aimed at both young male and female. They enjoy socialising with their group of friends attending social events and listening to music within the Indie Genre.
NRS grade:
In terms of social class within the audience, we divide them into five different categories according to their social status. The first being Class A which is labelled ‘Upper Upper Class’ for example The Royal Family, The Prime Minister and The Mayor. The second category which is Class B is ‘Upper Class’ which consists of figures such as Lawyers, Headmasters, Doctors, Consultants etc. Class C1 is ‘Upper Middle Class’ such as Teachers, Solicitors, Secrataries and PA’s. ‘Lower Middle Class’ comes next which is known as Class C2, workers such as plumbers, mechanics, electricians and IT technicians are placed in this category. Category D is ‘Upper Lower Class’ which are workers which require no skills such as shelf-stackers, Post-men and rubbish collectors and finally Class E which are lower class are the unemployed or homeless people.
I believe our audience would most likely belong in either NRS grade C2 or D. This is because the song is more likely to be able to relate to this demographic. Also being a younger audience, they may not have worked themselves up into a higher status. The song we have chosen also belongs to a genre that is commonly preferred by this type of demographic.
Uses and gratification theory:
The audience may use the advert in two different ways. Either ‘personal integrative’ which is when we associate characters who face similar problems to ourselves and the otherbeing ‘social integrative’ which is when audiences see a social issue which they don’t specifically face themselves however begin to understand it.
Secondary audience:
A secondary audience is an audience that the product is not specifically aimed at however may also enjoy the outcome. For example a secondary audience for our music video may be lovers of alternative rock. They could be of any ethnicity, not typically white British or American and same as before they can be of either gender.
