This is an example of an ident created by E4, it is set in a living from at home to make the audience feel comfortable. E4’s signature colour purple is used within the clip and the logo is also featured. This helps the audience recognise and associate the video with the channel E4. As this ident is based in a living room, this may suggest the channel is aimed at a wider target audience for all of the family as the living room is a room put to use by all of the family. The ident only includes relevant information as the screenspace has a very small density. There is extra relevant information, so a voice over was used to broadcast this as it is easier than overwhelming viewers with lots of information on the screen. Lots of bright colours are used throughout the ident, this is to make the ident stand out and catch the eyes of the viewers, attracting a larger audience and increasing the income. This is a screen shot taken from BBC’s Iplayers home page. It includes all different logos for each channel belonging to the BBC . There is a example of segmentation of scheduling as there is a timetable of shows regarding information such as what channel they’re on, what time they start. Their duration and also what day they are on. This is also a form of advertisement as previews are shown of what is being broadcasted so viewers have an idea what is being shown and if there is a programme they enjoy they can switch to BBC to watch. Sky Movies Showcase create various idents that are suitable for their target audience as well as the genre suited for the films being shown. There are different types of idents for example sci-fi or Disney.
Disney movies are usually aimed at a younger target audience therefore there ident would be designed for them to find appealing In this Disney ident, a magical scene is shown which represents Disney movies as magical. This Sky movies ident shows an image of Oscars on it. This is a form of advertisement as it advertises a big event happening and also may draw attention from the audience as they take an interest in the event occuring. I have chosen to analyse and talk about the corporate identity of the channel E4. Corporate Identity conveys information about either a corporation, a firm or a business. It is in other words the ‘corporate personality’. It helps to answer questions such as ‘who are we as a business/company?’ and what their purpose and plans are. It overall creates an image of the corporation in the minds of the diverse public, so in this case the target audience of the channel which is between the ages of 16-34. There are different sub categories within corporate indentity. The first is corporate design which is the overall look of the logo (font, size, colours etc.) and how it may relate to the audience and the channels ethos. The second is corporate communication which is how it is portrayed and advertised to attract the audience and give themselves an identity as a channel. Lastly, the third category is corporate behaviour which includes the channels ethos and values, the type of programmes they air and what may be important to the channel. E4 uses corporate design in theiry logo to make it recognisable to their target audience. The logo is white however mostly purple is a unisex colour which is linked to creativity and imagination. In addition to this, the text is in bubble writing. Furthermore this makes the ident all together eyecatching to the audience making it easier to remember for the target audience. As a corporation, E4 also uses corporate communication in different ways. A good example would be the E4 estings, these are short clips to give the audience an idea of what a programme or show is about. This an interesting and creative way to do this as it passes off information and attracts viewers. It uses public relations in a way to build up an image for the channel and keep the target audience interested too. In addition to his, E4 uses corporate behaviour aswell as they value and prioritise what they think is best for their viewers. They broadcast numerous different shows which are suitable for both men and women ranging from 16-34 in order for the channel to appeal to a variety of different audiences. Viewers give ratings and the amount of ratings increase due to the audience growing. This in theory means more money for the corporation. In conclusion, E4 uses corporate identity to maintain an image they have created for their channel, to advertise this image aswell as their shows and also keep their audience entertained. |
